In May this year, I heard a friend say that fishing boats in some towns in Hainan can still go out to sea during the fishing moratorium, but they need to install LED fishing lights. The LED fishing lights will be installed free of charge. After fishing at sea, the catch will be reported, and half of the income from the sale of the catch will be used to repay the money of the fishing lights. Many ship owners apply for installation, but the quota is limited. This is a way for the government to assist in the promotion of LED fishing light.
Obviously, the shipowners are willing to accept these two methods, because the shipowners do not need a large investment, use it when it is useful, and let the manufacturer remove it when it is not useful. The shipowners need to bear little risk, but the possible benefits may be great. Take the owner of the fishing boat Yueyang Xiyu 33222, which installed the third generation of Weizhi LED fishing lights as an example. Although the owner used LED fishing lights in years 15 and 16, they could catch almost the same amount of fish as when using the metal halide fishing light system, but they saved 60% of the fuel. So incomes actually increased in 2015 and 2016, and shipowners not only bought new cars, but also renovated their homes. However, in 2015, the LED fish-collecting light deteriorated badly and the catch decreased significantly. Therefore, the ship owner asked the manufacturer to remove the LED fish-collecting light system, hoping to continue to enjoy the free upgrade and installation provided by the manufacturer. It is clear that the manufacturers have a profit to make. Once the government’s transfusion stops, the manufacturers cannot continue to perform free installations at a loss. So the owners opted for the traditional halogen light system.
